Hosts and link seen as OK but initially down

Hello all,

I use Zabbix to supervise desktops and switches and many other things. My main issue is that some desktops are not installed yet as well as some links on the switches, but are seen as OK on the dashboard.

Is it possible to see them initially as a problem or do I have to install them so they will show a problem once they go down ?

Zabbix will report on the environment as it sees it. How you have defined the host, what templates and triggers you have define "OK" in your environment. Pick one, get it working as you need it to work before bulk adding your environment.

I will add some informations. All the dashboard were build up from the ground and tested. Everything is fine and triggers accordingly. The issue occur when I reinstall the VM hosting the zabbix server. In the installation, I import the database with everything. Once I open the dashboard, everything is seen as OK by default but when I navigate in a host trigger configuration you can see it is in "PROBLEM" state.

See attached. 20 triggers on but not reported in problem.

Does it eventualy recover? How long does it take?

Your reinstall and import is your snowflake, most don't fo that, so not much help.

It never recover automatically. The only way to recover is to actually install the machine so the trigger goes OK then problem if the machine goes down.

We are still developing the infrastructure so many reinstall will occur. It's a bummer I cannot see what machines are down/not installed after e reinstall.
