Tracking media type attempts, and using them in other media types

Hello,

We have several media types set up. Media type X is firing a script, media type Y is posting comments on posts in JIRA.
I am looking for a way to track how many times media type X has been fired, so I can include that in media type Y's comments.
Is there a way to achieve this?
Any tips are appreciated.
