using agent 5 with zabbix 7

Among the machines I look after are a couple of very elderly ones which are on RHEL 5, kernel 2.6.18. They are medical devices which cannot be updated. I would like to switch to Zabbix 7, but apparently it won't work with agents older than v5.

It appears that the v6 agent won't work on kernel 2.6.18: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-3395

Can someone either explain how to compile a v6 agent to wor on kernel 2.6.18, or give me a better idea (which doesn't involve updating the OS, which is not going to happen)?

Can you tell us more about your experiences? The compatilibity documentation states that "To be compatible with Zabbix 7.0, Zabbix agent must not be older than version 1.4 and must not be newer than 7.0."

Huh. I'm so sure I read on that very page that agents could only be one major version behind, but now I can't find that text. I guess I imagined it. Thanks.
