Server which could turn off and on

    Dear forum members,

I'm relatively new to zabbix and I have a question for you.
I have a server where I have installed a zabbix agent2 to monitor a jvm application.
Everything works fine but this server is not under my control, it's in a client premises, the client every night switch its connectivity down, in the morning the connection is switched on again.

Is there a way to avoid receiving the messages because the server is disappeared without loosing the possibility to receive the alerts about the jvm under monitoring inside the server when the connectivity is on?

    Thanks,
    Stefano

Good evening, yes, it is possible, you can add it to the maintenance status from a time x to a time y, and define whether you want it to be collecting or not during that time.

It would be the best way in this case.

Another way would be to add alarm time to the triggers using the time() function, however, I believe the one above is better

I have adopted an another approach.
These servers could go up and down for they own nature so the indication on the IMCP Trigger that this is an Alarm is not correct.

I have duplicated the ICMP Template and created a new one where the Triggers for "ICMP: Unavailable by ICMP ping" is INFORMATIONAL and not HIGH; this match much better the behaviour of my servers.

      Thanks,
      S.

You could also, since you have installed agent there, add zabbix-sender there and then use that to send shutdown/startup signals from OS startup/shutdown events, that way it's possible to separate intended shutdown from power/other failure so you wouldn't even raise any events when you have indication that computer was shutdown properly....

Thanks for the suggestions! I wasn't aware that the Agent could send the information of a real shutdown. Could you point me in the right direction of some documentation about that feature?

        Thanks,
        S.

As I said "add zabbix-sender there", so you need to install one component, if you haven't already. How to use that sender: zabbix_sender . It depends on your OS where you need to place call to zabbix-sender, google is your friend on that issue.
