Availability Unknown ?

zabbix_server.conf, i set PingerFrequency to 60s

Using Simple check for a few hosts, Host is using IP address to monitor.
i edited the hosts file as well, ip address of host, hostname i use in zabbix, no use.

Item ping i also set to update every interval of 60s..

Item Ping with icmpping return value of 1, but availability is unknown ?

Why is this so?

Have search through the forums, but found no solution.
On Zabbix-1.1.6, with Fc5

Only passive agents checks affect availabiliy of hosts.

Okay, so that means, hosts using simple check(e.g, icmpping, icmppingsec) does not check for its hosts availability ?

But i have other servers using simple check(more checks, DNS, SMTP, POP, SSH, TCP) to check and it does return as available under Availability.

Why is this so ?

Erm okay i added simple check item<[tcp,port], i just put tcp> into my ping template(which has icmpping, icmppingsec) and once saved, all the previous unknown availability all becomes available....

Does simple check item(tcp, 53) means that it is checking the DNS service ?

I don't understand why after adding the above item, and all my previous host availability changed from unknown to available... Can anyone give an explanation?

I have a host templat only with icmppingsec and two trigers => all systems are availability unknown but i receive ping successfully
