    Upgrade from 1.1 to 1.4

Firstly, congratulations to Alexei & co. for reaching version 1.4

I want to upgrade from version 1.1 but am not sure how. The PDF documentation (par. 2.3.3) states "The following steps have to be performed for successful upgrade from ZABBIX 1.3.x to 1.4." Further down (par 2.3.3.6), it states "Note: These scripts are for upgrade from ZABBIX 1.1.x to 1.4 only!".

So, does that mean the Upgrade procedure (par. 2.3.3) can and should be used for to upgrade from version 1.1.x? Or should I be doing an intermediate step to upgrade to version 1.3.x first?

Thank your for any help in this regard.

    Upgrade 1.1 to 1.4

Also congratulations to Alexei & co. for what seems to be great work.
Zabbix now leaves a more mature impression.

I upgraded the mysql db with the provided scripts from 1.1 to 1.4 and had some problems with it, first, all config and monitoring data was lost and second, when I logged in as admin all administrative tabs weren't displayed.

Next I dropped the whole db and created a new one - afterwards
    everything was working fine.

Actually I have no idea what went wrong - I didn't invested too much time in working trough the update script.

Thanks virtulization I can step back and try it once a agian - and have a detailed look at the update scripts.

    Kind regards,

    Martin

      Update

      Hello,

I am also upgrading from 1.1.7 to 1.4 and I have found a lot of issues with just running the script as directed in the manual. I have been able to go through the various problems and make some fixes. I think the best bet is to drop the database (in my case it isn't a big deal) and recreate.

      What everyone else's thoughts?

Has anyone also had issues with updating the php web frontend? Is it suppose to say 1.1.7 for a version?

All in all, I am very excited about the new version and I have really convinced a lot of folks around here about the usefulness of this system. Good Job!!

It should say 1.4 in the frontend, but I would imagine this comes dynamically from the binary, not the php files.
Check that you are running the right binary (zabbix_server -V). I had the 1.1 version installed by apt-get and the binaries were in /usr/sbin but the default install of 1.4 puts them in /usr/local/bin.

I had the same issue after upgrade from 1.1.6. In the database I've changed "type" of my admin accounts from 1 to 3 and it helped.

            In manual I read this:

Database upgrade scripts are located in directory upgrade/dbpatches/1.4/<db engine>: MySQL: upgrade/dbpatches/1.4/mysql/patch.sqlOracle: upgrade/dbpatches/1.4/oracle/patch.sql PostgreSQL: upgrade/dbpatches/1.4/postgresql/patch.sql

but patch.sql for Oracle is empty (his size is 0 byte). How to me upgrading my base?

upgrade, frontend reads 1.1.7, not 1.4

              Hello Everyone,

I did copy the binary to the /usr/bin and that is what is running. It still reports as being 1.1.7. Are the frontends wrong? I uncompressed and checked the dates. Is there something that has to be done to apache? Did it cache the web pages somehow? I have started and stopped the httpd several times.

Does it read it from the database, could that be my problem from the get-go? I think I am just going to re-create and go from there.

              Take Care!

I really don't want to drop the db. That is starting over, not upgrading

there is a possibility the database to upgrade, I have 50 Windows Servers in the monitoring with all services, eventlog, CPU, Harddrive....

A new installation means very much work !

has anybody an idea how to upgrade the database ?

                  Christian
