Local agentd not responding on 1.4.5 running on CentOS 5.1

I've a zabbix server up and running, and it seems to be monitoring remote agents perfectly happily.

However, the agentd on the zabbix server itself doesn't seem to be responding. I've tried both the agent I compiled and the pre-compiled one and when I try
    zabbix_get -s 192.168.124.25 -k agent.version

    I get

zabbix_get [21812]: Timeout while executing operation.

In zabbix itself the error reported on the hosts page is ZBX_TCP_READ() failed [Interrupted system call]

I've set up the host to connect by its IP address and have tried defining both 127.0.0.1 and the machines IP address (192.168.124.25) with no luck.

    Any ideas?

    Comment the ListenIP parameter
    and restart agent.

    That should work

I've tried that and restarted both agentd and server...

      No joy

Hmmm... I then put it back into passive mode (DisableActive=1) and then it suddenly started sending back data

        Working...
