Please give us proper reporting

Thank you for a very nice system. It does however lack some essential features.

I want Zabbix to not just be a realtime monitoring system, but also a system from which I can get statistics and reports about the overall health of my entire network and everything in it.

Zabbix can do this today because it stores data for a user defined time period, however it does not include an easy way of getting this information.

Say for example that I want to know which 10 servers that had the highest decrease of free space, highest avg CPU load etc.. for the last 30 days. This can't be done in zabbix today.

I know that I can create a report based on triggers so that I get a list of the trigger status in % for each host. But this requires a trigger for the information that I want and I can't sort the list in any way, so this is kind of lame actually.

What I want is a specific screen where I can create all kinds of reports and statistics for the last month. Some things that I want:

A list of the top 10 servers that has had the highest average CPU load (or any other monitored item) for the last month.

I want to be able to get a list of all monitored servers and get the total disk space, current free diskspace and the change of free disk space for the last month (SORTABLE by category). I want to be able to make similar comparisons for any monitored items and host.

Something like the Overview screen in the monitoring section, BUT containing monthly or weekly averages and of course the most important; it has to be sortable by category (ie. highest CPU load in a decending order...).

Perhaps THE most important feature is a way to export reports and statistics to pdf, excel, cvs or something.

Can you please just tell me if anything of the above mentioned is even remotely possible? Because my boss wants reports on paper for pretty much everything and this is just something that Zabbix can not provide (unless I create the reports manually each month but I'm not getting paid for overtime so that's impossible ). Should I start looking for another system (free) that can provide the above or should I expect such a feature in upcoming versions?

Please note that I am a Windows server administrator so don't flood me with Linux terms . Im using version 1.8.1 of Zabbix on FreeBSD

Reporting

Has anyone already used 3rd party reporting services on top of the Zabbix data model ? (for example Jasper ?). This also would open up a lot of possibilities to implement all the above features - as this is just logic on top of the acquired data.

Currently we are doing this today with ireports and Jasper Server. With ireports you can build reports right from the Zabbix Database.

Since I need to provide information to the board, I develop (in fact it's not over yet - far from it) a small application to generate some reports. I called it ZabbixReports. It's my "pet project"...

I developed it in C#, so it's necessary .net framework 3.5. It's a desktop app.

I never distributed it, so I don't know if it will run smoothly outside my computer... If you want to give it a try, just change the ZabbixReports.exe.config (mysql ip, user and password). If you need help, send me a private msg, and I'll try to answer asap...

Yes , zabbix reporting has been a concern.
We are in the process of integrating zabbix to cognos reporting system which can pull the data from the DB and plot.

But cognos needs info on different tables , items and the actual sql query statements written to be able to do this job .

We are doing something similar using Business Objects, but its a pain supplying BO with all the tables etc and making sure the SQL behind the scenes is correct. Its going to take a while to get what we want out of it.

Its a bit disappointing that the original posts in this thread are over 3 years old with feature requests raised but from what I can tell, the reporting still hasn't been significantly improved. We're using 2.0.5 at the moment.

Anyone know of any plans to implement reporting into Zabbix? I'd hate to go through the pain of creating our own reports to find that a later version does what we want.

We do this with Scriptcase (www.scriptcase.net) a very nice Brazilian PHP development system we use for all our reporting, from Zabbix and many other systems - has graphs, forms, etc.

We use it mostly for finding problems in our highly-dynamic Zabbix environment such as disabled items when enabled on template, bad or short intervals on items, unsupported items, all sorts of data reports, some graphs, user audits, event tracking, integration to other systems, etc.

We have extensive SQL for 1.8 for all this, probably 25+ things we do regularly, and more from time-to-time that we hope to update to 2.x this year and then publish somewhere (along with a proper Zabbix ER model).

I been waiting for some improvements in zabbix reports for a while and so far it hasn't been much! Hope with all this post someone get this in next zabbix update.
