Possibility of showing live traffic for l7 protocols

Hi would it be possible to impliment a graph for showing the protocols and the amount of bandwidth they are using ie http, pop3, p2p, etc.. similiar to l7 protocols etc.

Normaly it could be done with netflow tools. It's standard de'facto. I would recomend NetFlow Analyzer4 from adventnet. They do have free edition. There are simplier free tools. But it's separate, pretty big task. It's possible to use SNMP with Cisco QoS tools to see traffic in different queues. But it's not that easy to use like counters on network interfaces.

Debian install

thanks for the info, had a look at NetFlow Analyzer4 and it seems to only be for redhat or windows.. am running debian sarge, do you know anyone using it for debian sarge?

the redhat .rpm should load just fine in debian make sure you have rpmtools available

(this being said, I am not a debian guy. But the functionality to utilize the .rpms should be available)

It should work without any problems because it's Java based server with shell scripting and mysql as a database. It has few issues but it possible to work it out.

You might want to try alien on debian. Usally that works fine.
