    1.8 Editing Maps

    I have a really strange problem when i want edit a map after 1.6.7 -> 1.8 upgrade.

    I can drag & drop the "Zabbix server" icon but the "Template..." icon is freeze, it's impossible to select it.
    If I click on the button "add an element", a part of an icon appears in the top left but it's impossible to select her. So i can't add an item on the map...

    I tried on Firefox 3.5.5, Safari & IE...

    Anyone got this problem ?

        ok, it was you had the problem before

        have you added any custom icons ? if you remove icons that have problems, can you add new elements in a new map ?

          In fact, i didn't add custom icons... just one background image. I deleted it.
          And there wasn't image background configured for my maps.
          If i go in Menu-> Monitoring -> Maps, i can view the map with no problem :

          But if i try to edit this map, i get the screenshot in my first post.
          Really strange doesn't it ?

          And i tried to create a new map after deleted my background image. No change.

            After deleted, everything is back to normal.

            Thank you very much!

              could you provide the original image for testing that caused this problem ?

                In fact, this is a link with this problem :

                When i upload an image, there is no data in the "image" field in the DB. I'm trying to solve this problem...

                  Can't edit map

                  I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.8 through the Debian packages and I use postgresql as DB.

                  I cannot edit maps at all. All I see is the layout with the lines and names, but now Icons. On top I see + - for Element and Link. But I can't see anything else.

                  I have no idea how to edit maps. There might have been something gone wrong during the update, because I have the same issue in any browser on any OS I try.

                    This problem was because of some package error with the debian one. effects.js and dragdrop.js was missing. Once they were put in place the map edit works.

                      I'm also dealing with a map problem, but on a much wider level. When I try to edit a new map (I don't have any maps now) I get the empty background, but as soon as I try to add an element, the text sysmap is displayed inplace of the empty map I had before and I cannot do anything else.

                      What little I've found in logs connected to this is in the apache access log, where the following is entered:
                      "GET /zabbix/imgstore.php?imageid=5c92b5b94dceabc1ba7d7ccd6e8fe cec%3Ctable%20class=%22msgerr%22%20cellpadding=%22 0%22%20cellspacing=%220%22%20id=%22msg_messages%22 %20style=%22width:%20100%;%22%3E%3Ctr%3E%3Ctd%20cl ass=%22msg%22%20colspan=%221%22%3E%3Cul%20class=%2 2messages%22%3E%3Cli%20class=%22error%22%3EError%2 0in%20query%20[SELECT%20*%20FROM%20images%20WHERE%20imageid=]%20[You%20have%20an%20error%20in%20your%20SQL%20syntax ;%20check%20the%20manual%20that%20corresponds%20to %20your%20MySQL%20server%20version%20for%20the%20r ight%20syntax%20to%20use%20near%20%27%27%20at%20li ne%201]%3C/li%3E%3Cli%20class=%22error%22%3Emysql_fetch_assoc ():%20supplied%20argument%20is%20not%20a%20valid%2 0MySQL%20result%20resource[/home/zabbix/public_html/include/db.inc.php:546]%3C/li%3E%3Cli%20class=%22error%22%3Emysql_free_result ():%20supplied%20argument%20is%20not%20a%20valid%2 0MySQL%20result%20resource[/home/zabbix/public_html/include/db.inc.php:548]%3C/li%3E%3Cli%20class=%22error%22%3Eimagesx():%20supp lied%20argument%20is%20not%20a%20valid%20Image%20r esource[/home/zabbix/public_html/map.php:266]%3C/li%3E%3Cli%20class=%22error%22%3Eimagesy():%20supp lied%20argument%20is%20not%20a%20valid%20Image%20r esource[/home/zabbix/public_html/map.php:267]%3C/li%3E%3C/ul%3E%3C/td%3E%3C/tr%3E%3C/table%3E HTTP/1.1" 200 - "http://vakt/zabbix/sysmap.php?sysmapid=3&sid=c97427256308dc04" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; is; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091221 Firefox/3.5.7 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)"

                          No, I don't have any images available. When I tried to upload a png image I get the message "Image added" but there's no thumbnail and the text "no image" is displayed above the image name. When I try to view the image (by clicking on the no image text I get the following error:
                          imagecreatefromstring() [<a href='function.imagecreatefromstring'>function.ima gecreatefromstring</a>]: Data is not in a recognized format[/home/zabbix/public_html/image.php:56]
                          imagepng(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource[/home/zabbix/public_html/include/config.inc.php:976]

                          When I try to delete an uploaded image, I get these errors:
                          * Error in query [UPDATE sysmaps_elements SET iconid_off= WHERE iconid_off=1] [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'WHERE iconid_off=1' at line 1]

                          Not much fun to deal with...

                            1. did you insert images as per installation instructions ? http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...#zabbix_server

                            2. if you are using mysql, do you have utf8 encoding set for database, images table and image field in it ?

                              Thanks! This really helped as I can work on maps now.

                              My setup is an upgrade from Zabbix 1.6 and I somehow seem to have overlooked the utf8 conversion part while upgrading, only running the SQL script to modify the database.

                              I've now got the system images loaded and can access those, but I'm still unable to upload my own images (backgrounds).

                              Here's a small sample of the error message I receive when uploading:
                              Error in query [INSERT INTO images (imageid, name, imagetype, image) VALUES (4,'Hofudborgarsvaedid',2,'PNG ....

                              This binary string disappears into the pink background, so I can't tell you what else follows.
