installation problems

I am installing zabbix 1.8

I have encountered this error
checking for curl_free... yes
checking for net-snmp-config... /usr/local/bin/net-snmp-config
checking for main in -lnetsnmp ... no
configure: error: Not found NET-SNMP library

while configuring...
i have installed net-snmp and libcurl using the tar balls available online.


what is the issue.
I am also using suse 9


if i do configure without net-snmp will i still be able to check process instances on a client machine using agents?
what are the uses of net-snmp?

It's used to perform monitoring using snmp. If you're gonna use only agent it shouldn't necessary for you.

did you install the devel versions also?

net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2-9.el5_5.1
net-snmp-5.3.2.2-9.el5_5.1
net-snmp-libs-5.3.2.2-9.el5_5.1
