    template linkage

    Hello,

i have a problem with zabbix. currently i'm using zabbix 1.8.3 and i cannot link templates with hosts.
if i link a host with a template i've got the following error:
    * Circular link can not be created
    * Can't link template
    * Failed to update template
i believe that the problem is since the update from zabbix 1.6.x to 1.8.3.

what can i do to use the linkage again?
i don't want to set up a complete new zabbix

    thanks for your help!

i've looked into the database and have some additional information for you (i turned on the query logging on my mysql server):

    INSERT INTO hosts_templates VALUES (474, 10362, 10049)

    SELECT ht.hostid, ht.templateid FROM hosts_templates ht, hosts h WHERE ht.hostid=h.hostid AND h.status=3

    SELECT max(ht.hostid) as hostid, ht.templateid FROM( SELECT count(htt.templateid) as ccc, htt.hostid FROM hosts_templates htt WHERE htt.hostid NOT IN ( SELECT httt.templateid FROM hosts_templates httt ) GROUP BY htt.hostid ) ggg, hosts_templates ht WHERE ggg.ccc>1 AND ht.hostid=ggg.hostid GROUP BY ht.templateid

    rollback
i started the SELECT statements at the first try after the INSERT and the second try without the INSERT ( id 474 deleted) and both times i get the same result for the SELECT statements.

i think there is an error in the zabbix code and not in my configuration!!!

            Template linkage

            Hi,

This could be similar to the problem introduced with 1.8.3 whereby template linkage with dependencies was broke.

What I mean is that if a host has a template linked to it that contains a dependency to another template, an error message appears which results in the need to remove the dependency before you can re-apply the template.

If your problem is linked (bad pun!) to this problem, then the latest release candidate appears to have fixes in place for problems with template linkage.

Having said that, the error message ("circular linkage") has been around for a while and so I don't want to mislead people by assuming this is the same problem as the one I mentioned above. I seem to recall that another workaround is available to fix circular linkage problems - search the forum for clues.

            Hope this helps,
            Danny.

              thank you for your answer!
i think i'll wait until zabbix 1.8.4 will be released.

is there any date for the release of zabbix 1.8.4?

there must be a problem with the database

                      Suggestion

                      Hello again.

You might like to try looking in the following thread:

Apologies if you've already checked, however the problem could be that you have a corrupt entry in your database.

                      Check for:

                      - hosts in the wrong groups
                      - templated graphs

I would image the definitive way to discover which entry is corrupt is to try deleting / recreating the host and/or graphs in question (that is, if you know which one is causing the problem!).

                      Hope this helps,
                      Danny.

after 6 hours i find the problem:
it seems that a host makes the problem, but i can't find any abnormal data for this host in the database.

                          update:

there were two templates which are linked to one template.
after deleting the links the problem has been solved!
