    Zabbix server is not running:

    Hi experts,

I was finally able to complete the installation of Zabbix 2.0.2 on CentOS.
However, "Zabbix server is not running: the information displayed may not be current." message is on the dashboard.

    I did the following:

    1. Changes the SELinux to permissive (learned from zabbix forum).
    2. Checked the config files if correct password is used on the database, which is correct (learned from zabbix forum)

Still have the same issue after doing the steps above.
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Thank you.

      Hi Luis,

Sadly, we have the same problem I guess. Once I have the solution, I'll post it here. Good luck.

        zabbix.conf.php

        Hi,

the message shown does not refer to the database but to the actual server. Check in zabbix.conf.php
        $ZBX_SERVER and
        $ZBX_SERVER_PORT
Make sure that port on the given server is your Zabbix Server and can be reached from the frontend server.
        Good luck

Thank you for the reply badener.

I will check on the config file. Thing is, it's an all in one box. That ! box is the database server, frontend server and the zabbix server itself.

having everything on one box shouldn't be a problem - that's how I started as well; once you found those parameters su to the user running your web server and try telnet $ZBX_SERVER $ZBX_SERVER_PORT
if the server is up and running and listening on the port the connection should succeed - if not you could check the local firewall (if you use one)

              zabbix_server.conf

              Hi badener,

I've heavily based my installation on this manual: http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/howto/ins.../centosinstall
with a little tweaks due to zabbix version.

I've actually checked zabbix_server.conf files and as far as the database server connection and usernames are correct. In addition, I've also checked the zabbix.conf.php which is found on the /var/www/html/zabbix/conf database profiles are also the same as with the previous file.

I've also had the chance to run the latest zabbix appliance 2.0.2 that run on opensuse. Checked on the zabbix_server.conf and it is pretty much the same as what I have on the installation. I also tried looking for the zabbix.conf.php on the appliance but I couldn't find it.

Sadly, after doing all of these and redoing it again, I still have the Zabbix server is not running: the information displayed may not be current.

                  Hi Luis,

I've tried installing the yum extender : yum install yumex, restarted apache and even tried restarting the machine still same error is encountered.

Still trying to figure this out though.

                  Thank you.

anything useful in the log file?

If you don't know where it's at, try

                    "grep -i log /usr/local/etc/zabbix_server.conf"

                    Kind regards,

                    Herta

had to edit /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf and edit this section

                          ### Option: DBPassword
                          # Database password. Ignored for SQLite.
                          # Comment this line if no password is used.
                          #
                          # Mandatory: no
                          # Default:
                          DBPassword=yourdbpasswordhere!

                            zabbix_server.log

                            Hi Riscaa,

Thank you for your reply. You have lead me to the right path of troubleshooting this. I've checked on the zabbix_server.log and found to errors on it:

                            1. [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

                            2. [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

With error #2, which username and password should it be when connecting to the Zabbix Database? Zabbix (created) or the Root user?
I've actually tried both zabbix and root user and made sure that /etc/zabbix_server.conf and /var/www/html/zabbix/conf/zabbix.conf.php are the same but to no success.

If it cant connect it almost sounds like the mysql server may not be running? I'd check that.
