    Riscaa,

Somehow after several change in the config still I can't get the passwords to sync. I've decided to re-install zabbix and start from scratch.
It seems I need to brush up my MySQL skills, I was able to complete the installation with no error and started zabbix frontend with no error with a help from a Database GUI.
From the the installation instruction: http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/howto/ins.../centosinstall

I may have done this incorrectly:
    mysql> grant all privileges on zabbix.* to 'zabbix'@'localhost' identified by 'set-password-here';
    mysql> quit;
(Granting access to a user on zabbix database) this step really frustrates me.

But nonetheless its, working fine now. Thank you.

      This is really strange.

I've started my Zabbix frontend successfully or so I though it was and it seems to be working well until I rechecked the server logs.

      It was full of:
[Z3001] connection to database 'zabbix' failed failed: [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I've tried matching the passwords on both /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf and /var/www/html/zabbix/conf/zabbix.conf.php both are identical.

I've made sure that the mysql password that I'm using is also the same, i even used navicat to make sure i have it correctly using the GUI.

Are there any other key points where I can recheck and verify that I have the correct database password?

        a few things to verify

        - as previously suggested by Riscaa, is mysql up and runnning?
        (ps auxw | grep mysql)

        - can you log into the database using the username and password in the config file?
("mysql -u zabbix -p zabbix" - when prompted, enter the password in the zabbix_server.conf file)

Thanks for the reply herta. I never realized that.
I think it's ok now. I'm totally a noob on mysql, but I'm learning it bit-by-bit.
          Thank you for your help.

            Zabbix Server Not Running

I am having the same issue, but I don't get the error all the time. It seems like every other refresh of the dashboard page the error shows up then goes away. The only messages in the zabbix_server.log is the housekeeper messages. I just upgraded from version 8.5 to 2.0.03.

            Any help would be appreciated.

Under CentOS you can safely assume SELinux is in your way.

One could disable SELinux totally with: # setenforce 0

But, needless to say is not the most secure option ;-)

To permit what zabbix frontend actually wants:

              # setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=true

                    more info required

                    rugwiza,
                    - what is your config (OS, db, zabbix version)
                    - how much of what is posted here have you checked? (database up and running, accessible using the password in the config file, log files...)

                              Hi rugwiza,

The logmessages you are seeing are not related to the issue of zabbix reporting 'not running' in the front-end. If you simply add a host 'Zabbix Server' (with a template I would think), the server will know what to monitor.

For your front-end issue: please read back to my earlier comment about selinux.

good luck, let us know how it goes!

                                zabbix not running

                                Thanks Tob,

I already added the zabbix server with its appropriate IP.

                                zabbix Server Applications (1) Items (0) Triggers (0) Graphs (0) Discovery (0) 10.8.10.32: 10050 - Monitored

According to the graph, it lloks to be monitored.
                                But the red alert persists:
                                zabbix server is not running....................
