Problem adding special trigger "status"

I have this problem where I cannot add the special parameter "status" as documented in the manual.

I assumed it was an automatically generated host item and so basically I add it as I would any other item to a trigger.

Name: Test Trigger
Expression: {adelaide.host.com:status.last(0)}=2
No dependancies

And I receive:

[ERROR:Cannot add trigger]

No such host (adelaide.host.com) or monitored parameter (status)

Ideally I would like to add this status trigger to a Template Host also. Is this possible?

Thanks all, this has been a serious thorn in my side for a while now. Other than this, zabbix monitoring is working perfectly.
