When adding host with interfaces defined with IP's, is a DNS lookup done?

It looks like it is, but I can't find it referenced in the documentation anywhere. I got a question from our network team that some of their devices with a large number of SNMP interfaces, only "some" of them get DNS names.

    Thanks

Not when polling or communicating with the host, it appears that when defined with IP only, something is doing DNS and entering the DNS name in the interface definition. The issue was found because people frequently use search on a name and didn't find an expected entry, then found a host with many interfaces (100? didn't count) but many didn't have DNS values.

If you have only IP, then no lookups are done,
      https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...fig/hosts/host
Connect to Clicking the respective button will tell Zabbix server what to use to retrieve data from agents:
IP - Connect to the host IP address (recommended)
DNS - Connect to the host DNS name
