zabbix not connecting to agent but others are fine

    Im completely stumped.
    i have zabbix appliance running..
    on a 192.168 network.
i have 6 linux machines connected via zabbix agent.
they are basically the same zabbix.conf except for the Hostname.
i just tried adding a new machine..
and it wont connect... there is no selinux or firewall running.
from the problem machine, I can run zabbix_sender to the zabbix server and it connects fine.
from the zabbix server i can run zabbix_get and connect to the client..

Here is the error i see.

cannot send list of active checks to "192.168.1.xxx": host [new-linux-machine] not found

and you can see in the attached screenshot, the problem machine does not have the
    ZBX box lit up green

First, create some item that uses Zabbix agent or link the template. If the item does not exist, the ZBX icon will not turn green.

      Meant to say..
i had this laptop connected before but I rebuilt it.
so i was wondering if zabbix kept mac addresses in its DB.. but I looked thru the tables in the DB and didnt find any MAC addresses

          Hey Mate.

Just to double check: does hostname in agent config file and hostname in Zabbix server match perfectly?

indeed it does... I double checked that..
i can even do a zabbix_get from the server to the client and get the name correctly.

No, there is no MAC in DB.

"host [new-linux-machine] not found" .. so you do have a host called "new-linux-machine" there somewhere? Maybe delete and recreate that host, if it exists?

no.. i replaced my actual machine name with "new-linux-machine" for this post... but the name is the same on the client and server..
I tried removing it and adding it..
so there is no way its something in the DB? because this laptop was running linux and had zabbix client installed.. it was connecting to my zabbix appliance without
a problem.. all i did was reinstall linux mint on it and now it wont connect.

              still a problem..
i used some zabbix-get commands from the zabbix appliance to the client that doesnt work..
              all calls work..
its very odd.. so this indicates that the appliance has no problem getting info from the client.

as you can see here.. i test 2 machines on my network.. one is communicating with the zabbix server fine and the other is the one that wont.

              [root@appliance zabbix]# for l in 192.168.1.7 192.168.1.108;do zabbix_get -s $l -p 10050 -k system.sw.os; done
