Zabbix agent 6-0-4 Debian 10 buster problem during installation

    Hello everyone,

I recently installed a zabbix server, I managed to monitor Windows hosts without any problems and some Linux ones.
However I have a problem with a Debian 10 buster machine which is our BlueMind mail server.

    Server information :
Zabbix 6.0.17 on Debian 11 bullseye

    Agent information :
    Debian 10 buster, agent 6-0-4

when I install it I get this error just after the command "apt install zabbix-agent"

dpkg: zabbix-agent package processing error (--configure)

So I looked at the logs of my agent and I have this message
"Zabbix-agent.service: can't open PID file /run/zabbix/zabbix_agentd.pid (yet?) after start: no such file or directory
    zabbix-agent.service: Failed with result 'protocol'
    failed to start zabbix agent"

I did some research on this error but without finding a solution.

I tried to reinstall the agent from a previous version but the error comes back.
The status on my agent is "loaded: loaded"

Is /run tmfps? Does /run/zabbix exist and is it owned by Zabbix? Does the zabbix-agent.service file contain a PIDFile line?

Should i create this file with nothing in it ? (Zabbix will then find it and complete it ?)

I probably dont have this file because of my error with DPKG.

Hope i answered your question, feel free to ask for more information and i'll do my best to provide.

My idea probably isn't your problem then.

Note, I misspoke, the RuntimeDirectory option is used to create a /var/run directory before systemctl starts a service, PIDFile just indicates the file to use, it won't create the directory.

            Hello,
Could this be related to the Debian version?

I guess I'm good to search the internet again in the meantime.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my post

                  Kind regards,
Could you post journalctl -xe ouptut after starting zabbix-agent service.
Set zabbix owner for /run/zabbix folder.
Set in zabbix_agentd.conf debug level 4 or 5 and post zabbix_agentd.log here after restart service.
