Zabbix 3.4: Zabbix server daemon not running

    Hello,
I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me on this as I can't seem to find the cause.

My Zabbix server stopped working over the weekend and I can't restart the service.

Looking at the /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log, I'm seeing the following:

    48450:20171212:174448.318 __mem_malloc: skipped 0 asked 256 skip_min 4294967295 skip_max 0
    48450:20171212:174448.318 [file:dbconfig.c,line:90] zbx_mem_malloc(): out of memory (requested 256 bytes)
48450:20171212:174448.318 [file:dbconfig.c,line:90] zbx_mem_malloc(): please increase CacheSize configuration parameter

I have edited the zabbix_server.conf file to increase the Cache sizes from default but the service still doesn't start.

Would anyone have any suggestions on what to do next? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Looks like the server is out of memory.

Can you paste the output of:

    free -m

It's likely you need to add more memory to your server, as that error seems to indicate the server itself doesn't have enough free memory to allocate.

Thanks for the suggestion. My server looks like it has enough memory though:
      root@NDCA0LPIN063:/etc/zabbix# free -m
total used free shared buff/cache available
      Mem: 28126 614 26233 110 1278 26955
      Swap: 0 0 0

        Issue found

Thanks for the help. I found the problem. I added an HP Enterprise switch using a template. When the SNMP discovery finished, there were over 1600 items. Looks like that is too many for the system. I was able to delete the device and restarted the service and now everything is working.
