    Hi Alexei Vladishev!

    Can I ask you a question ?

At this moment, I use Zabbix 1.6.5 and I have to add a new language (finnish). In the datasheet (the Zabbix's Manual), it's explained how to replace a language by another, but can we add a language?

And, if we can't, how can I change the name of one language by the name of the language I want to use into the web interface [profile/language] ?
Because, when I replace the files "fr_fr.inc.php" (by another file with the same name but in another traduction) on the directory "public_html", it still displays "french (FR)" for example.

    Regards,

    Stephanie

i hope to allow alexei more time for other tasks
as far as i know, currently you have to manually add new language to include/locales.inc.php file (see the list at the end of that file).

          Hello,

Yesterday I created a translation file with Zabbix (Administration/locales).

I downloaded this file, rename it and place it
into "/frontend/include/locales" like it was written in the web interface.

I added one ligne into the file "locales.inc.php" to create another constant ('fi_fi'=> S_FINNISH_FI,).

But nothing new appears in the web interface...

Then, I suppose it was necessary to do the same method in the directory : "/home/zabbix/public_html/include" because, it's thanks to this directory that my interface can be displayed.

I added the same translation file into "/home/zabbix/public_html/include/locales".

I added the same ligne into the file "locales.inc.php" in this directory.

          Result :
A new constant is diplayed when I want to change the language.

          But, an error appears...
          "Use of undefined constant S_FINNISH_FI - assumed 'S_FINNISH_FI' [/home/zabbix/public_html/include/locales.inc.php : 86]

          Can you help me?

Please consider sending your translation to [email protected]. We will integrate it into 1.6.x and 1.8.

i suppose string S_FINNISH_FI should also be added to corresponding locales - for example, see en_gb.inc.php around line 1640

I'm sorry, at this moment, it's a test : i don't have any Finnish translation. I'm in charge of finding how can we put a new language in your software. I have to test it and write an application note.

When i'll finish all my work (create a network, get back some equipment's data from my computer...), we will ask for our Finnish customer to translate the software.

When I will have the Finnish translation, I will send it to you but now, can you explain me how I can integrate a new translation file?

                        New pt_br translation

Find attached the 'pt_br' translation updated to version 1.8.3, revision 11313.

                        Edson.

P.S.: besides VI and related, can somebody point me to a translation tool applicable to Zabbix language files?

thanks, committed. one change seemed a bit weird to me, maybe you could doublecheck it :

                          - 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM'=> 'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo \"Graph sum\"',
                          + 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM'=> 'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo \\\"Graph sum\\\"',

also, it might be better to submit new translations on the tracker, they would be harder to miss

as for editing the translations... unfortunately, currently no standard solution like gettext is used, as a result it's tools also are of no help. suggested method would be to go to administration => locales in an existing zabbix frontend setup and use the form there to update the translation.

                            Hi...

As a help, I write a fast script that pull all keys ('S_*'s) (only the key names) from both language files (en_gb.inc.php and pt_br.inc.php), run a diff between both to grab new keys and over this resulting 'diff' file I iterate to substitute the keys by the corresponding lines from the original language files. Since I'm just updating the language file, I suppress the first tab from the new keys, in the edited 'diff' file. After 'patch'ing the target language file, I just have to look for "^'S_" to go directly to the new key line. The side effect is that the resulting patched file is out of order, when compared to the original file. This is due to grabbing only key names, ignoring comment lines.

It's ugly, I know, but it works... and as it's ugly that I asked for another way.

About 'S_ANOTHER_ITEM_SUM', sorry, but I don't know why it's this way. I applied above described script, copied the new version to ZABBIX front-end, reloaded the GUI and exported it through the GUI option. Is the GUI who created this 'messed' string. The right one? Should be:
'Não é possível adicionar outro item do tipo "Graph sum"'

Since "Graph sum" didn't have a really good translation (preserving semantic) I keep it in English.

                            Regards,
                            Edson.

P.S.: I'm relatively new to Zabbix. How should I submit to the tracker?

hmm, yes, it's a bit convoluted... let's hope that gettext or any other, better solution will be embraced in the future
btw, there's slightly experimental service to send an email whenever main locale has changed - and it also includes a diff. that way you can follow default locale updates and translate new strings as soon as possible :

hmm, maybe. so did you escape doublequotes manually ? i suspect that might not be required, although i did not check yet

that's completely fine, if somebody comes up with a great translation, it can always be translated later
