    Client to server?

    Hello everyone,

I'm trying to find an easy NMS system that doesn't take info from the client, but get's it. Nagios and Icinga goes to the client and grab the data, but when there are multiple hosts at the remote location I need to open multiple ports so that Nagios or Icinga can monitor and grab the data from all of them. This is a big security risk and I need a NSM system that only needs one port to contact multiple hosts. Is Zabbix what I'm searching for and if not what is?

zabbix has native agent for most platforms. you choose whether server polls the agent (passive agent), or agent reports back to the server (active agent).

additionally, zabbix provides a zabbix proxy, which may be installed in a remote location like that. in this case, proxy collects all data from the local environment and only the proxy communicates with the zabbix server (thus requiring only one tcp port for one host in one direction to be open)

Thank you for your reply richlv,

This is good news. Is it hard to configure because my knowledge about Linux isn't high. If Zabbix has this future than I definitely will use it.
