Upgrading zabbix 2.2 lts to 4.0 lts

    Hi All,

I am trying to upgrade from zabbi 2.2.1 lts to 4.0 lts, can someone help me out with the steps and process to be followed like for ex:
    1. can we directly jump to 4.0 lts and upgrade, if so do we have to follow the minor upgrades as well
    2. Or do we upgrgade the 2.2 minor upgrades then go to 2.4 then follow the minor upgrades and so on till we finish 4.0 upgrades.
    3. what are the challenges and what needs to be taken care of before loosing anything apart from taking backup.

    Regards,
    Jagadish

    Hello Jagadish

    1. It is possible to upgrade directly from 2.2 to 4.0LTS, latest revision of 4.0 is 4.0.11 you can go directly to it.
    2. No, there is no need to do minor upgrades, see #1
    3. Please read all upgrade notes and manuals in, this link is for REHL and Centos:
    https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...es/rhel_centos
Especially pay attention to #2 and #3 - they contain instructions what must be backed up before upgrade. Database itself, zabbix configuration files (especially if you tweaked them), frontend, etc.
Read upgrade notes for each minor version.

Do not forget to stop every zabbix process in system (server, agent), proxy upgrades you can perform later - after main server is upgraded.
Do not stop the database. Once you reach #7 i suggest you start only zabbix server and follow upgrade process in log like:
    tail -f /var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log
you will see lines like "completed xx% of database upgrade". Make sure upgrade process reaches 100%
How long upgrade runs depends of the size of your database especially history and trends tables.

After zabbix server completes DB upgrade you can start up the agent, frontend, upgrade proxies and so on.

I also suggest you watch this informational video about Zabbix upgrade created by a great guy from Zabbix:
