Now I am out of ideas.

There was another thread from a couple weeks ago with SNMP trap problems on a proxy, and I was trying to help that person discover where the issue was. I had them use 'strace' to verify whether the Zabbix SNMP Trap poller was seeing the traps that were being written to the intermediate file.

If I were in your situation, I would probably try using 'strace' to attach to the main zabbix server just before clicking the "Update" button, to see if there's something obvious in the system calls it attempts. The problem with your situation is that I can't suggest much to filter on, so rather than targeted output, there would be a huge amount of system call noise that you would need to look through. If you're not already pretty comfortable with 'strace', it would be fairly overwhelming.

I will have to ask my Linux admins to enable optional repos so i can install strace. I will update tomorrow. Thanks a lot for help so far.

ok i got strace going. i guess i need to attach it to main process i.e 2434 from here.

          zabbix 2434 1 0 Feb19 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/zabbix_server -c /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf
          zabbix 4948 2434 0 Feb19 ? 00:00:20 /usr/sbin/zabbix_server: configuration syncer [synced configuration in 0.121518 sec, idle 60 sec]
          zabbix 4951 2434 0 Feb19 ? 00:00:01 /usr/sbin/zabbix_server: housekeeper [deleted 9014 hist/trends, 0 items/triggers, 92 events, 0 sessions, 0 alarms, 0 audit items, 0 records in 0.212564 sec, idle for 1 h
          zabbix 4952 2434 0 Feb19 ? 00:00:02 /usr/sbin/zabbix_server: timer #1 [updated 0 hosts, suppressed 0 events in 0.000405 sec, idle 59 sec]

          if yes then

          strace -p 2434
          strace: Process 2434 attached
          wait4(-1,

i recreated issue but nothing on screen

I definitely wouldn't have guessed browser.

Thanks for following up and letting us know what the resolution was!

sorry for bumping this up. i had upgraded 4.4 to 5.0 and in process something went bad . As we were not in full blown implementation we reinstalled 5.0. completly removed 4.4 before doing that. Post install everything is ok except this SNMP issue
