Zabbix at Scale – Global Problem View for Multi Instance EnvironmentsWhen a large scale environment outgrows a single Zabbix server, the usual remedy is to split the monitoring workload across several independent Zabbix instances. Horizontal scaling eliminates database and API bottlenecks, but it also fragments the incident picture—operators must jump between multiple dashboards or stare at dozens of NOC screens to understand what is really happening. This talk introduces the concept of a Global Problem View (GPV) Server – a lightweight, read only service that polls any number of Zabbix instances, normalises host and trigger identifiers, and stores a consolidated snapshot in its own database. The outcome is a true single pane of glass: a unified dashboard that displays every active problem, its source Zabbix server, severity, and correlation data. You will learn how a GPV Server enables you to scale a monitoring stack while retaining full visibility and see how MSPs and system integrators can give their central Ops teams a consolidated incident picture across all customer dedicated Zabbix servers.

Monitoring, Detecting, and Responding to Security Incidents with Zabbix, Suricata, and MISP: A Practical IntegrationThis presentation shows a practical integration of three open-source tools (Suricata, Zabbix, and MISP) to build an effective approach for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security incidents. By using Suricata for network event capture, Zabbix for orchestration, analysis, and the automatic creation of monitoring objects, and MISP as a threat intelligence validation source, the project demonstrates how it is possible to structure an automated response based on reliable data. The integration enables not only the real-time identification of attackers but also the assessment of incident criticality and the execution of automated actions based on pre-established criteria. The presentation also highlights the power of automation as an essential element for reducing response time and increasing the effectiveness of security operations.

Open Source, Open Mind: The Cost of Free SoftwareJoin Dylan Beattie for a look at the past, present, and future of free software. We’ll talk about the history of the free software movement, from MIT’s Artificial Intelligence lab, to the shareware and public domain movement of the 1980s, to the era of GitHub and package managers. We’ll explore why people choose to give their code away for free in the first place - and what happens if they change their mind. We’ll talk about licences and legalities, we’ll learn about some of the weird and wonderful edge cases that free software has created over the years, and we’ll ask the question: is a truly sustainable open source ecosystem possible, and if so - what might it look like?

Zabbix Watches Everything — But Who Watches Zabbix? As infrastructures grow, Zabbix becomes a central piece of the puzzle — but often escapes scrutiny itself. In this talk, Pascal will explore why auditing Zabbix is not a one-time task, but an ongoing process that deserves as much care as the systems it monitors. He’ll look at how to design and experiment with a lightweight, modular audit framework, using Python and the Zabbix API. Inspired by the principles of continuous integration, this approach uses small, repeatable checks to catch misconfigurations, performance issues, and operational risks early — before they cause real damage. This session is about more than just tools: it’s about adopting a mindset of continuous improvement and resilience. You’ll leave with concrete ideas to make your Zabbix environment easier to maintain, more reliable, and ready for future growth. Whether you manage a few hundred items or thousands, this talk will help you take a step back — and start monitoring your monitoring.

From Assumption to Assurance: Closing the State Gap in Large-Scale Network MonitoringBackups don’t protect your network. Truth does. While leading Dell’s global network team, we reduced network outages by over 70% ($20M–$30M/year in estimated impact) across a 20,000+ device estate. The turning point? A mindset shift — from passively monitoring performance to actively validating the real-time state of the infrastructure. Because here’s the uncomfortable reality: Not all risk lives in logs. Not all change happens in config. State shifts silently — from transient routing changes to engineer workarounds made under pressure. And without active observability, these events stay hidden until they cause real business disruption. This session will share how we tackled these gaps using a combination of tools — including custom state monitoring, change drift detection, and extended use of Zabbix in enterprise environments.

HP to Zabbix: The Great EscapeSTMicroelectronics is a leading global manufacturer of electronic components for the consumer, automotive, computer peripherals, mobile, and industrial markets, with 14 manufacturing facilities worldwide. In 2019, STMicroelectronics and Quadrata initiated the migration of its monitoring system from HP OpenView to Zabbix at the Agrate (Milan, Italy) plant. To meet the specific customer needs for this project, Quadrata promoted the implementation of Zabbix SIA frontend modules, allowing for greater customization. Following the successful completion of the project at the Agrate plant, in 2024 STMicroelectronics asked Quadrata to start the same migration process at their Catania plant, adding an additional facility at the same site, dedicated to the production of silicon carbide (SiC) wafers and substrates. Currently, two independent Zabbix clusters monitor both Catania plants, using a custom Quadrata unified frontend module for centralized issue management, ServiceNow ticket opening, and manual action scheduling. Independent Zabbix implementation projects are also underway at other STMicroelectronics plants worldwide.

Lightning Talk: ZbxWizz: Managing Zabbix Data at Scale Without Losing ControlIf you’ve ever used Excel and scripts to manage hosts, tags, or templates in Zabbix, you’ll relate to this. In this talk, Sergiu will introduce ZbxWizz, a tool he built while working as a Zabbix admin to handle large-scale changes faster and with fewer errors. ZbxWizz connects directly to the Zabbix API and gives you a spreadsheet-like interface, where you can load data either from Zabbix or from CSV and Excel files, augment the current dataset by pulling extra data through the Zabbix API, use JavaScript transformations on the column level to update name, groups, triggers and more, and push the updated data back to Zabbix safely when ready or export it to CSV for further processing or reporting. Sergiu will also walk you through some real use cases like batch onboarding new hosts from a CSV, reorganizing tags, and creating custom reports.
Sergiu Voicu
Zabbix Administrator,
Webwerks SRL,

The Zabbix Book Breakout RoomAssembled by longtime Zabbix enthusiasts Patrik Uytterhoeven, Brian van Baekel, and Nathan Liefting, the Zabbix Book will get its own breakout room, where Summit attendees can brainstorm in small groups about how to improve the book with new ideas and topics.
Patrik Uytterhoeven
Patrik had 16 years of experience in IT and mainframe monitoring before joining Open-Future, B.V.B.A in 2012. The company is a long-time Zabbix partner and one of its first training partners. Over the years, Patrik has successfully delivered multiple Zabbix projects for customers in Belgium. In early 2013, he took his expertise to the next level by training in Riga to become a Zabbix Certified Trainer. Since then, he has conducted Zabbix training worldwide and authored several successful books on the subject, including the "Zabbix Cookbook" and "Zabbix 4 Network Monitoring." His latest project is an open-source Zabbix book under the Monitoring Penmasters foundation, a community-driven initiative in collaboration with a member from OICTS.nl and Zabbix founder Alexei Vladishev. The foundation will offer a free online HTML version of the book, along with a paid printed edition, with profits donated to an open-source project to be decided later. Learn more at www.thezabbixbook.com.
Brian van Baekel
Brian founded Opensource ICT Solutions to provide Zabbix services in a market that was missing experts on this subject. He has singlehandedly expanded the business to multiple countries and is also an official certified Zabbix trainer for over 7 years.
Nathan Liefting
Nathan's first introduction to Zabbix was back in 2016 when he had to upgrade an existing installation from version 2 to 3. He was working as a Network Engineer at the time and was immediately sold on Zabbix’s usefulness for network monitoring. He went on to become a full-time Zabbix consultant and trainer in 2009 while writing books, blog posts and helping out the Zabbix community in various places.
