A Zabbix log item consists of multiple parameters, which can be used to collect log entries containing a particular string or matching a particular pattern. Zabbix log items make it possible to:
Monitor a log file from the latest entry or start analyzing it from the very beginning
Use regular expression syntax to match strings in a log file
Customize the output of the collected log entries to provide concise and useful information
Collect and display the local log entry timestamp
Retrieve and react to the number of matching log entries over a time period
Ensure that the correct log file is being monitored whenever a log file gets rotated. Zabbix can easily find and continue reading from the latest log file.
