Set up Zabbix for the app

To use Zabbix mobile app (coming soon), you must first:

  1. Set up Zabbix bridge adapter.
  2. Set up push notifications.
  3. Add your mobile device in the Zabbix web interface.

The sections below cover each step.

Set up Zabbix bridge adapter

To allow your Zabbix server to communicate with the mobile app, you must set up Zabbix bridge adapter.

The bridge adapter can be installed on the same system as your Zabbix server, or on a different system, using packages:

The steps below are for Ubuntu 24.04. For other operating systems, take the repository and package installation commands (e.g., wget, dpkg, apt) from the Get Zabbix page for your OS, and use them to install the zabbix-bridge-adapter package.

1. Start a new shell session with root privileges:

sudo -s

2. Install the Zabbix repository:

wget wget https://repo.zabbix.com/zabbix/8.0/release/ubuntu/pool/main/z/zabbix-release/zabbix-release_latest_8.0+ubuntu24.04_all.deb
dpkg -i zabbix-release_latest_8.0+ubuntu24.04_all.deb
apt update

3. Install Zabbix bridge adapter:

apt install zabbix-bridge-adapter

4. Edit the Zabbix server configuration file:

EnableMobileDevices=1
BridgeAdapterURL=https://bridge-adapter.example.com:10005/rpc

5. Restart Zabbix server, for example (see other options):

systemctl restart zabbix-server

6. Copy the Zabbix server ID from Reports > System information; you will use it in the next step.

7. Edit the Zabbix bridge adapter configuration file:

ZabbixAPIURL=https://example.com/zabbix/api_jsonrpc.php
ServerId=019fb1f9-22bd-74ea-bc03-51efb8b76aba
DataDir=/var/lib/zabbix-bridge-adapter

The directory specified in DataDir must have 0700 permissions, and all files stored in it must have 0600 permissions.

8. Review and accept the end-user license agreement (EULA) of Zabbix bridge adapter:

zabbix_bridge_adapter license show
sudo -u zabbix-bridge-adapter zabbix_bridge_adapter -c /etc/zabbix/zabbix_bridge_adapter.conf license accept --non-interactive --version 2026-09-29

9. Start Zabbix bridge adapter:

systemctl start zabbix-bridge-adapter

When started, Zabbix bridge adapter uses the server ID to enroll your Zabbix server with the centrally hosted Zabbix Bridge. The enrollment state is stored in a state file in DataDir. If you reinstall the bridge adapter and the state file is lost, enrolling the same Zabbix server may fail. To avoid this, back up the state file before you reinstall the bridge adapter and restore it afterwards.

Set up push notifications

To get alerts on your mobile device when something needs attention in your monitored environment:

  1. Create a push notification media type (or enable the default one).
  2. Create an action (or enable the default Report problems to Zabbix administrators trigger action).
  3. Add a device to automatically add the media type to your user (or add user media manually).

Add devices

To use Zabbix mobile app on your device, you must add that device in the Zabbix web interface. For instructions, see:

  • Users > Devices (as Super admin, add your own or other user mobile devices)
  • User settings > Devices (as any user, add your own mobile devices)
